Rebecca Patrick Flaherty
Rebecca Flaherty is a Classically-trained soprano with degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Georgia Southern University.
Recent performances include Savannah Music Festival's cabaret Come Rain or Come Shine, and Suor Angelica, The Lucas Theatre's Cabaret Series, Symphony Under the Stars! with Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, Carmina Burana with Savannah Philharmonic, The Impresario with Charleston Chamber Opera, Savannah’s Picnic in the Park, Mozart’s Requiem with Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and chamber concert at The Telfair Museum with members of The Savannah Philharmonic.
Rebecca initiated a partnership with other like-minded voice instructors in 2012 to form The Voice Co-op. This innovative community allows voice students to sing and gain feedback from skilled voice professionals and an audience of supportive student peers in monthly group classes. In this way, all students are nurtured by many teachers, and gain valuable performance experience vital to their artistic development.
The continuation of the vocal arts is a passion of Rebecca's. To bring more of the Classical vocal arts to the local community, she initiated a relationship between Sherrill Milnes’s VOICExperience Foundation and the city of Savannah to develop The Savannah Voice Festival, which debuted in August 2013.
Savannah Music Festival honored Rebecca by inviting her to introduce opera to 10,000 area school children through their Musical Explorers education program during the 2016 season.
From January—June 2016, The Savannah Children's Choir tapped Rebecca to serve as their interim conductor. She conducted a number of concerts at home and abroad during their Ireland tour, and feels grateful to have had such a magical experience.
Rebecca is on the Board of Savannah Friends of Music, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit that has been awarding grants to local Classical music organizations and scholarships to music students since 2003.
Rebecca, her husband Dan, and their three children reside in Ardsley Park.
